Going through iso like the rest of the planet, I found I could only get so much entertainment from growing a beard. So I decided I should buy a guitar. Sounds like a great idea! I’m in my early 40s, have never learned a single instrument in my life, and yet somehow I figured I’d pick it up with no problems (osmosis possibly?). I bought an electric guitar, the amp and cable. I’ve played it a few times, and it’s a race to the bottom for which is lower, my satisfaction, self esteem or the number of notes I successfully hit. There’s more to this, I thought. And call it arrogance or ignorance, but I wasn’t going to reach the other side of a lockdown without developing a new skill. No matter how bad I am at it.
Then it hit me. My clumsy fat fingers were not delicate enough for guitar. Give me fewer strings and space to move. But not too dear, just in case this one becomes an ornament too.
Here’s where Harvey’s comes in. An acoustic bass for $120. Delivered in three days. I hope it’s not a piece of junk.
I shouldn’t have worried. This sounds the goods, is comfortable to play, and I think I’ve found my musical calling. Maybe not quite, but this doesn’t make me look or sound stupid. Instead of needing discipline, I find myself wanting to pick this up, and after a few weeks with no formal lessons, I’m actually not too embarrassed to play this in front of anyone.
Now I’d imagine a thousand dollar bass might sound better, or be more comfortable. But this isn’t a thousand dollars. What this is though, is value.

Worth more than the price.
There is a point when making a decision ..we think of the price, as I did with this acoustic bass. I wanted something I could play without an amplifier ..and not invest too much on an instrument type I knew little about. It's more than I expected ...an option to plug and play with a nice warm tone ...and when I don't want to use the amplifier ..to play as gently as I feel the urge. Turned out ...not a problem with either. It's a great acoustic middle of the road bass for my purposes at a very good price.
