Awful change to a formerly great product
Loved the old product, will be returning the new one and searching for a new brand. The issues? As most of the reviewers have stated: It no longer has the self sharpening twist up option - HUGE issue for me as I am always on the go and sharpening is not only inconvenient but also waists an unreasonable amount of the product; the color and quality are inferior - significantly more red than it used to be, it now clumps and doesn't go on smooth, and now smudges unlike the previous version (removing any reason for me to use this product or put up with the aforementioned disappointment). If the previous version is brought back I will return for it, but until then, I will no longer be using Nars.

New & Improved...NOT!
In my opinion, the new eyeliner is new but not an improvement over the previous eyeliner. I was surprised to find out that you have to sharpen it with a pencil sharpener. It looks just like the previous eyeliner that was self-sharpening. I had to call customer service to be told that the tip looks like plastic but it's actually treated wood that can be sharpened with a pencil. I missed the "sharpenable" description on the website because the new product picture looks so similiar to the old one that I wrongly assumed it was self-sharpening. Please bring back a self-sharpening option! And an option for the previous formulation!

Listen to the Feedback
It's funny reading the NARS explanation for the changes because 1) I never experienced the issues they claim yet 2) I agree with the heard of people who have listed everything that's wrong with this new product. From the crazy effort it took to open the cap, to the flat tip it already has. I would have given this a try, but I sharped a sample pencil once that was made exactly like this and I KNOW how difficult that was to do and the sharp pieces that remained. These pencils costs too much for that mess and I don't trust that it will function for long. Listen to the feedback, NARS. You just lost my eyeliner business.

Disappointing
Used to use this all the time when it was a twist up pencil. This new version which has to be sharpened is not user friendly. It is very difficult to sharpen. It breaks and the tip falls out. When it does sharpen it sometimes doesn't sharpen easily and you end up with it scraching your eyelid with the section that didn't quite shapen - like a pencil that only sharpens on one side. This used to be the top rated eyeliner and it is one of the lowest rated. You would think this would be a concern for the company and they would consider going back to the original. No luck. Finding a new eyeliner and or course when this happens I usually start to use their other products. Looks like NARS might be history for me.

Can't sharpen in! Useless after 3 uses!
Love the color, love the feel, but after 3-4 uses the pencil was useless and ended up in the trash. I tried sharpening it many ways and with many sharpeners, but it never worked. It is way too expensive to only last 3-4 uses. The packaging of the liner is horrible. They did a great job formulating the liner itself, they need to now focus on making it functional. Not wasting my money. Hate to stop buying it because it is the best Navy available, but it makes me so angry every time I go to sharpen it that I refuse to deal with this liner again until it is modified. Heading back to Arbonne's liners. Just wish they had a Navy!

New Style/Formula is TERRIBLE
I have been using this eyeliner for years, and recently purchased a new one to replace my old one. I brought it home and thought it was defective because I couldn't twist it and use the self sharpening feature. I brought it back to the store and the employee informed me that it was a pencil that needed to be sharpened with a NARS sharpener. She also insisted that it has always been this way, which I informed her wasn't true. I ended up returning it and going with another brand. Also, the new formula smudges terribly and by the end of the day I had dark circles under my eyes, which the previous one never did. Needless to say I am very disappointing as I am a huge NARS fan and have been using the product for years.

Hate new design
I've lost my favorite eyeliner! I've used NARS for years, but the second time I opened This high pigment liner to use it, the "crayon" part had dropped out of the pencil. I thought I would twist the bottom, but found out it is an old-fashioned pencil that has to be sharpened. The crayon part is too soft and the pencil part too hard so this expensive pencil will not last. Will be returning it. But the primary reason I'm done with NARS is that the responses to similar dissatisfaction from NARS on this site are excuses, not responses. I'm done with NARS.

so much wasted
I want to say first that this is the best waterline eyeliner I have found, and Gran Via is a perfect intense, warm matte black. This makes it all the more unfortunate that you lose so much when sharpening. I have tried different sharpeners, even freezing it, but very often after sharpening a long piece will fall out. It does not secure well to the wood, in fact it seems to be smaller than the hole in the wood, so it has no stability. I am writing this review in the hopes that if enough of us do NARS will take it seriously and fix the problem. Everything else about this eyeliner is perfect :(
